River lamprey
Lampetra ayresi
Family: Petromyzontidae (Lampreys)
Etymology: Lam = sucker; petra = stone; ayres = after William O. Ayres who first recognized the species (Moyle 2002)
Similar to the Pacific lamprey, but much less is known about this fish.
The ammocoete (larval form) has a much larger eye than the eye of the Pacific lamprey.
